Your one-time payment code for online purchases (3D Secure)

How the ether.fi 3D Secure verification code is delivered when paying online

When you pay online with your ether.fi card and the merchant requires extra verification (3D Secure, also called 3DS or strong customer authentication), a one-time code is now sent to you by ether.fi. You enter this code on the merchant's verification page to approve the payment.

How you get the code

The one-time code arrives two ways at the same time:

  • A push notification from the ether.fi app

  • An email from ether.fi with the subject "Etherfi: Your one-time payment authentication code"

Delivery takes seconds. Use whichever arrives first — both carry the same code.

What to do

  1. Start your payment as usual. The merchant's verification page opens.

  2. Open the ether.fi app notification or the ether.fi email and copy the one-time code.

  3. Enter the code on the merchant's verification page to complete the payment.

The code expires

The code is valid for a limited time and only for that one payment. If it expires, start the payment again and a new code will be sent.

If you did not receive the code

If neither the notification nor the email arrives, see https://help.ether.fi/en/articles/626522-3ds-otp-not-received for step-by-step troubleshooting.
